Happy Fourth of July!

I hope you’re planning a fun day. Way back in 1976, I was a ninth grader. We practiced patriotic songs all year to sing at the big spring concert. My little town planned a huge celebration for July. There was no Democrat or Republican. There was no Baptist or Methodist. There were no other separations–we were just all Americans celebrating together.
We wore period costumes, had a parade, ate hot dogs together, and played games on the high school baseball field. The day was so much fun, and the months of planning leading up to it yield lots of special memories, too, because we were working together for an important goal.
My little town doesn’t have any plans like that this year. Unfortunately. Instead, Kevin and I will celebrate at a friend’s house while we try to beat the oppressive heat!
Thirteen years ago today, I was focusing on different memories. Go here if you want to read that post.
I hope you have a wonderful semi-quincentennial! Happy Independence Day!
