For the past few Octobers, I’ve spent a week or at least several days writing with several other authors on Hatteras Island on the Outer Banks. It’s where “A Hatteras Surprise” takes place, and I’m here again this year.
The island is set about 30 miles off the coast of North Carolina. It’s quiet and beautiful and the perfect place for authors to write.
Last year, my publisher asked me to be part of a novella collection set at Christmas and set at different beaches. “Don’t you live near the Outer Banks?” she asked, only weeks before I was supposed to leave for the retreat.
Yes, I live about four hours from Hatteras, but I’d never written a novella before. I didn’t have an idea for one either beyond Christmas at the beach. I wrote about last year’s retreat here if you want to go back and read what was happening back then and what I needed from God. It’s sweet to read the prayer requests I had a year ago and ponder how God answered them.
I had big asks last year, and God delivered in big ways. Candy Cane Wishes and Saltwater Dreams proves it. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
I don’t know exactly what I’m doing here this year beyond editing my story about Sam, the youngest brother of the Daniels’ clan. (I’ll write more about him in later posts.) I also want to write some blog posts, take some pictures, and maybe do a few Facebook live posts. We’ll see. (I’ve never done Facebook live posts by myself!)
Whatever happens, I also plan to leave open time for God to work like He did last year. I can’t wait to see what He does!
