I’ve wanted to visit this blast from the past for a long time. At least several decades probably. I graduated high school when Charlie perfume, Earth shoes, and the Bee Gees (their second time around) were big.
I wore this skirt for my high school senior picture and also on stage for my role in our drama class’s spring production.
Yes, that’s a grainy profile picture of me wearing the skirt, complete with upside down glasses. Yes, they really were a thing back then.
I’ve kept that skirt through several moves and decades because I always loved the floral pattern and couldn’t part with it.
A few weeks ago when I considered what to wear to meet my besties from that long ago time (check out this link if you want to find out more about them), I pulled out that skirt, pulled it up to my chest, and paired it with a little chambray shirt. It worked!
Here I am present day.
The shocking part to this story isn’t that I kept the skirt for decades (I hang onto things I love). No, the shocking truth is that the elastic didn’t dry rot!
You might also be shocked that I wore this outfit in public–to dinner and then to my book club discussion, but I did. Sorry, not sorry!
I love this story so much!
Tell me something that you love or something that will surprise me or people who know you. I’m looking forward to your story.

Your story, and the pictures, are wonderful! I, too, had glasses like that.. it was a thing. Holding on to a few objects that make me happy works for me. I have a pair of blue suede clogs that I had in high school, 50+ years ago. I just couldn’t part with them. Took them to Rex Shoe shop years ago and he restored and cleaned them as best he could. I still love them, and they still fit!

Julie, I had blue suede clogs, too! Oops. I should say, I still have them!
Kindred spirits!
