I spent a wonderful afternoon with my two daughters at a Jane Austen Tea Party recently. These two beauties aren’t my daughters, but I loved how they embraced Jane’s spirit and dressed the part. Next time, I plan to wear appropriate Regency attire, too.
The food was yummy, but I can’t believe I forgot to take a picture of our beautiful teacups. Phooey on me!
We answered trivia questions–really difficult questions. I answered five correctly and was relieved I made fifty percent. We spent time learning embroidery stitches. I was shocked to discover I’d never taught my daughters to embroider. Parenting fail!
We also took a turn at practicing letter writing with glass dip ink pens. Sadly, I didn’t get a picture of these pens either, but check them out here if you’ve never seen one. They’re cool and fun to write with.
We learned the history of nosegays. They were beneficial in a time before room fresheners. Ladies could hide their noses the sweet scent of their flowers if an offending odor threatened to ruin their day, hence, the term nosegay. Everyone could design her own. If you keep up with this blog, you know that I love flowers. Here’s proof. Also, remember Forever Free is set on a cut flower farm!
Here we are at the nosegay station. Fun!
And here is my nosegay!
My recommendation is to attend a Jane Austen Tea Party as soon as you can!
