My Bible Study Fellowship teaching leader asked us to share pictures of our seventeen-year-old self to go along with our study of Genesis 42. Joseph recognizes his brothers in this chapter, but they don’t know him. since they sold him into slavery about twenty years prior, they don’t expect him to be the second highest ruler in Egypt.
Here’s my senior picture from high school. The pictures were taken in the Mrs. Langston’s beautiful garden, the grandmother of one of my best friends. I thought my upside down glasses were so cool. You can’t see the floral skirt I wore then, but I still have it in my closet. Seriously. That’s how much I loved that outfit.
Here I am in a recent photo. Yep. Several decades make a difference, right?
The second part of this exercise was to offer advice to that high school seventeen-year-old. Here’s mine: God has a plan for you, and it’s a good one no matter what it feels like in the moment. God uses hardships to change our hearts and bring good. He’s always working on something greater than you can understand, so trust His faithfulness and goodness.
I wish I had know that truth then, but I am grateful for my years in BSF for making it known to me now. (Follow that link to find out how long I’ve been studying with BSF!)
And just because I can, here’s a picture of some women who knew me then and know (and love) me still!
What advice would you give to your high school self?
I’d love to see some of your pictures, too! Show them in the comments!
