Princeton Public Library opened in our new (temporary) location on Monday, September 4th. Hooray. Here are some pictures from our beautiful space.

The library’s quick history.
It’s been a long time in coming. When I began volunteering with PALS (Princeton Area Library Supporters) back in 2005, our public library had a corner of the high school library. The pros of this location is that we didn’t pay rent or electricity bills or custodial bills. Cons were that we had access only after school was out. We had to ask permission to hold any kind of event in the facility. Many people didn’t know we existed.
Here’s the first blog I wrote about my frustrations with our town’s support.
A few years into my volunteer experience, most of the PALS members had moved onto other organizations. The treasurer and I were left with the task of raising money for the library’s budget. I began to appear at the town board meetings requesting more money. Year by year they commissioners upgraded with $1000 one year, $2000 another until the year I asked for the whole budget, $11,900.
Read this post to see how the commissioners responded to that request.
The library’s future.
In just the two week’s we been open in the new (temporary) location, we’ve doubled the weekly patron count, and people have been blessing us with book donations as well as practical donations like a vacuum cleaner–proving my almost twenty-year assertion that we’d have an easier time fundraising if we had a space to call our own.
Our future looks bright, and I’m excited. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
