Well, 2020 went out in true 2020 fashion. Because all of us came down with COVID, we didn’t get to celebrate like normal. I didn’t get to bake all our usual cookies. I didn’t bake my husband’s birthday cake. I didn’t finish Christmas shopping. I didn’t get to light the last Advent candle at church with all four of my children (for the first time ever!). I could go on, but I think you get the message.
I did get to experience the vast love from my community and church and family as piles of food kept coming into my parents’ house during the wake for Daddy. I got to read heartfelt condolences from people all over the world. The funeral, a private service to keep people safe, wasn’t what I’d envisioned, but over 1000 people watched the Facebook live video in the first week. (That’s crazy and comforting at the same time.) I spent Christmas with all four of our children for the first time since 2017.
But best of all, I know Daddy celebrated Christmas in Heaven with Jesus. Friends, that’s true comfort. Hallelujah.
If your 2020 or your Christmas or your whatever didn’t look like what you wanted it to, I encourage you to look for positives in the midst of the disappointments. I promise you will find them. We have peace and hope because of Jesus.
Let’s look forward to all that God has in store for us in 2021! Remember, “God heals the brokenhearted.” Psalm 147:3
