Today I join the ranks of many, many people whose age starts with a 5. George Clooney, Barack Obama, Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Ellen, Sara, Susan, Chloe, Annette, and Kim all welcomed a new decade within the last few months. Meg Ryan and Jon Bon Jovi will come onboard in a few more. An interesting crowd.
I have to be honest. This birthday has brought a few pauses as i’ve contemplated it. So for the past year, I’ve been stepping out of my box a little. I ran a 5k to prove that I could do it. I ran the entire 3.1 miles, finishing in 34:16–before several teenagers did. I swam across a lake in Pennsylvania on a brisk june morning. With the white caps and strong current, I probably swam twice the original 1500 feet before reaching the opposite shore. And I attended a midnight showing of an important movie with my children. It seemed like a young thing to do. My eyelids ruined only a couple of scenes.
Today I take another step outside my comfy place with the opening of this blog. Instead of lamenting the passing of my last decade, I’m looking forward to future blessings. God has surprised my with wonderful gifts in the past, and I’m anticipating new ones because He’s the God who is”able to do immeasureably more than all we ask or imagine.”
Yea. I’m excited.
