I learned to crochet a long time ago and taught my children to crochet, too. Even the boys! I like incorporating the craft into all of my stories.
One minor sub-plot in Rescued Hearts involves a crochet group crocheting and knitting hundreds of beanies in honor of a young child who had died of cancer. She’d been a part of the group during a previous remission. She always crocheted in bright colors and crazy combinations.
We like bright colors at our house, too. Here are some of our beanies.

The colors are sedate in this one, but imagine it in pinks and purples or yellows.

How about this one? It’s made of five granny squares sewn together with a border at the bottom.
Here’s another one in the same colors worked in a variation of a granny square. The pattern is a bit fancier than the previous hat.

Here’s one with more muted colors worked with a double crochet stitch and for a person with a big head!
Does someone in your life need a colorful beanie? What colors would you choose?
