I’ve been trying to keep a positive outlook during our pause in normal lives, but I’ll tell you…lately my shiny thoughts have dulled a bit with persistent questions:
When will my out-of-state children get to visit me again? Will our YMCA family camp week (we’ve been enjoying this sweet week since 2003) happen this year? How long will I be able to keep my 82-year-old mother from breaking quarantine and leaving her house? Will we really not be able to enjoy a Steelers’ football game in the fall??
Oh. My. Stars. I have to remind myself that God is still in control. I’m the one who’s letting my focus wander.
Look to the Bible
I’m reminded of one of my favorite chapters in the Bible: Isaiah 40. If you have time (and let’s be honest; most of us have a lot of that now), reread that whole chapter. It’s filled with comfort from the One who is full of compassion, peace, and care. I’ll make it easy for you. Go here to read Isaiah 40 in the NIV.
Here are some samples:
“He tends His flock like a shepherd…carries them close to His heart…Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, or with the breadth of His hand marked off the heavens” Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?” vs. 11-12
“He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” vs. 28-29
We may be weary, but He isn’t. Praise God!
