Christian romantic suspense authors are growing in popularity. At one point in time, inspirational fiction typically consisted wagon-train stories. Soon, readers who enjoy clean fiction sought more exciting plots and intriguing characters.
It wasn’t long until many mainstream fiction genres, including mystery, suspense, and fantasy, crossed over. That boosted the careers of many Christian romantic suspense authors.
Christians who write romantic suspense use the same suspense and romance elements in their stories as mainstream authors, but they leave out any graphic descriptions of violence. Romance scenes in Christian fiction include romantic tension, but, as with violence, they aren’t spelled out in detail on the page. Plus, with inspirational romantic suspense, the relationship between the hero and heroine focuses on a spiritual and emotional connection rather than just a physical attraction.
One element that is used well by some of the most popular writers of inspirational romantic suspense is setting. Setting is a well-loved tool by other suspense writers, too. Stephen King’s fictional town of Castle Rock comes to mind. Christian authors who write suspense also often create unique locations in which to set their stories.
Some readers are pleasantly surprised when they read their first inspirational novel. Many romantic suspense books written for the Christian market are page-turners. In fact, some writers of Christian romantic suspense have landed awards and become best-sellers. As the word spreads and the popularity of this genre continues to grow, you can expect to see more and more new names among the list of Christian romantic suspense authors.
