We’re celebrating thirty-five years! Happy anniversary, Hope and Kevin!
This picture always makes me laugh because of a funny story that happened a few weeks later. Kevin and I were visiting his parents, and his mother stopped at this photo in our new album and said, “Hope’s punch! My friends just love your southern punch tradition.” I didn’t know of any southern punch tradition, so, with a little trepidation, I asked, “What tradition?”
“Oh,” she said, “the bride gets up on her wedding day and makes the punch for the wedding. That’s why everybody called it Hope’s punch at the wedding.”
Insert the bulging-eyed emogie here.
“No,” my heart was beating overtime now, “that’s not a tradition. Everybody called it Hope’s punch because I kept asking for it and no one remembered the recipe. There’s no tradition like that.”
Pat, my mother-in-law, considered me for about fifteen seconds and answered, “My story’s better,” and turned the page to the next picture. Oh, boy!
Another emogie, please!
The graphic I made of our picture tells the beginning of our story. Our romance trope, of course, is opposites attract. The coupling might not look good on paper, but it’s worked for us…so far!
Here we are at dinner on our anniversary, August 20th, 2023. Celebrating thirty-five years!
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
